Today, May 13, 2014, marked the day that we are officially 75 days away from enshrining Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Bobby Cox into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.  They will be joined by Frank ThomasJoe Torre and Tony La Russa in July.

The ceremony will take place behind the Clark Sports Center on July 27.  The trio of Atlanta Braves heros will be inducted into Cooperstown, N.Y. most prized baseball award at the same time.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the museum.

Greg and Tom both were 300+ game winners – Maddux had 194 wins with the Braves, 133 with the Cubs, eight wins with the Dodgers and 20 wins with the Padres.  Glavine had 244 wins with the Braves and 61 wins with the Mets.

“It’s very humbling to go in with these guys,” said Maddux.  “It’s just icing on the cake.  It’s going to be a special day and I’m going to be able to share it with special people.”

Maddux and Glavine are the only first-ballot pitchers to be elected together since Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson were part of the inaugural class of 1936 along with Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner.

“I’m just really humbled by the whole experience so far,” Glavine said back in January.  “I’m really excited about this whole process and this opportunity.  I’m looking forward to it all.  The opportunity to go in the Hall of Fame is one thing, but the opportunity to go in with two guys who were a very big part of my career means a lot to me.”

The special day is only 75 days away.  Hopefully you’re looking forward to the ceremonies as much as myself and the rest of the Tomahawk Take staff are.  These are the guys we grew up with and will probably be a very moving night for us all.

If chicks dig the long ball, they must dig the HOF….

Congrats again Bobby, Tom, Frank, Tony, Joe, and Greg!
