Atlanta Braves Call Up Shae Simmons

Twitter has done it again!  The great media site has reported the news for us!

The Atlanta Braves have called up right-handed pitcher Shae Simmons from Double-A Mississippi.  The 23-year-old has pitched very well for Mississippi with a 0.78 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched.  He has recorded 14 saves and holds a 30K/6BB and .183 BAA in 2014.

Shae was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2012 MLB draft by the Braves and contains a 1.43 career ERA with 40 saves.  This is a guy who has never given up a professional home run in any minor leagues he has played in.

The one issue I see is that he’s never pitched above Double-A.

Sounds like we will see him in a Braves uniform tomorrow!

With one person coming up, one has to go down…And that person is left-handed reliever Ian Thomas.  Thomas will go back down to Gwinnett to continue working on his secondary pitches.

Since most of you probably have never seen Simmons throw before, take a look at this YouTube clip of him throwing with the Rome Braves.

He’s never pitched above AA, but he’s “never given up a major league home run”? Please leave the journalism to the journalists.

This is a respectful blog. There are ways to critique without insults. Thanks for coming around and sharing your input but courtesy is a must ’round here and reading your other posts from other blogs, there doesn’t seem to be much courtesy in your tank.

Really excited to see what Shae can do in the Majors. He’s got dominant stuff and has really harnessed his control this year. I guess it’s time to get that interview up now! HEHE!

The call up of Simmons doesn’t surprise me and addresses the need for a power arm to backup Kimbrel. With Walden out – and becoming more injury prone BTW – and Kimbrel’s inability to consistently locate his fastball this year – Simmons is about to become a key factor in this season. If SS had been in the pen against the R Sox Kimbrel wouldn’t have been used in the 8th. I thought we might see Graham but Simmons being a pure reliever made him a better choice.
