Next DRIVEN To Feature Craig Kimbrel

According to a press release by Fox Sports, the next episode of the popular DRIVEN documentary series, which often features current and former Atlanta Braves players, will feature the story of Craig Kimbrel this coming Friday, June 27, 2014 on Fox Sports South, adding new meaning to the popular phrase, Release The Kimbrel.

Craig Kimbrel – The Closer

The title of the DRIVEN episode featuring Kimbrel will be “Craig Kimbrel – The Closer”, and will debut Friday at 9:30 PM CST, and will be televised at the close of the game that evening where the Braves will be taking on the Philadelphia Phillies.

As you may know, Craig Kimbrel is from right near where I live in Hunstville, Alabama, and according to the Fox Sports Release, the DRIVEN episode is going to take a look at his childhood in Huntsville, visit some of the ballparks he played at as a kid, and take a close look at his how Kimbrel prepares for his performances in the offseason.  The episode will also feature interviews with Kimbrel’s wife, his parents Mike and Sandy, and his brothers Matt and Alan.

The Atlanta Braves drafted Kimbrel out of Wallace State in Alabama after just one season there, taking him in the 33rd round.  Kimbrel decided to go back to college though for his sophomore year.  The Atlanta Braves drafted him again the following year, but that time in the 3rd round.  If you’d like to find out more about Craig Kiimbrel, take a moment to visit his personal website, CraigKimbrel.com.  His Biography page from his website adds the following about Kimbrel:

In Craig’s first year with the Braves organization he flew through 3 levels from rookie ball to high A. In Craig’s second year with the club he went through 4 levels all the way up to AAA. On May 5, 2010 the Atlanta Braves called up Craig. Craig made his major league debut on May 7, 2010 against the formidable line-up of the Philadelphia Phillies and recorded 2 K’s.

Craig thrives pitching in those pressure filled environments. He cites coming in and getting the team out of a no out bases loaded jam against the Royals as one of his highlights so far. He also felt a big moment came in the playoffs against the Giants when he pitched 2 scoreless innings and the Braves came back and won the game.

Do you know if it will air on any other channel? Sadly, I don’t get Fox Sports South.

Mushy I don’t think so, but I’m not sure. I will try and find out, but I think Driven is exclusive the Fox Sports South. It might be on the web somewhere, or on Fox sport South website. Bummer you don’t get that.

Nor will I. I do get Texas High School Football spring practices and other such useless bull droppings on FS Southwest. At some point the FCC needs to come into the 21st Century and let us watch the channels we want to watch.

Set my DVR…thanks for the reminder Chris
