Braves at Astros: Day Baseball Live Thread

Join us today at Tomahawk Take for our Live Game Thread, as the Atlanta Braves go for the sweep in game three against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX.

I love day baseball, and today’s game just happens to fall on one of my off-days, so not only do I get to catch the game, but I also get the thrill of talking about it with fellow fans in our Live Thread.  So, please join us!

I was immensely pleased with the performance of Alex Wood in his return to the starting rotation last night.  In seven innings pitched, Wood gave up zero run on just three hits, while walking just one Houston batter.  Wood struck out four batters while inducing 17 strikes looking, and 10 ground balls.  It was a brilliant performance!

Minor Vs. Cosart And Other Thoughts

Certainly Mike Minor has it in him to put up the same performance, and Mike Minor (2-4, 4.20 ERA) will take the mound for the final game of the series today, and hope to produce the same kind of effort for the sweep.  He will face Jarred Cosart (7-5, 3.78 ERA) who has been pretty good.  He outpitched David Price in an Astros recent win over the struggling Tampa Bay Rays, and the 6 foot 3 inch, 195 pound righty can throw upwards of 95 mph.

While Cosart appears to me to be a pitcher who will regress quickly, he shouldn’t be taken lightly by the Braves’ hitters.  He mostly throws a cut fastball and a curve, but he will throw in a change-up from time to time to try and mix up hitters.  His cut is reportedly quite good when he’s on, so we’ll have to hope he’s not today.

Game Details

2:10 PM EST, Thursday, June 26th

Probables:  Mike Minor (2-4, 4.20 ERA) vs Jarred Cosart (7-5, 3.78 ERA)

Appreciate you keeping the thread going Alan. Emails just keeping coming in :(

Well, Jaime struck out 2 and gave up a homer (to Springer). That’s not an impeachable offense, I suppose.

Top of the 8th: Laird, Upton, La Stella due… 2-1 to Laird so far.

      Fly out to CF

Groundout to short – BJ is 1 for 4 on the day… and raised his average.

Beats raising my dander, which he usually does.

Astros changed pitchers (Tony Sipp). La Stella gets him first. Almost got one of his already-trademarked hits… SS robbed him at the grass on a slice to the left side. Braves have 3 more outs to go.

Luis Avilan… 3 quick outs. Huh – have we had a 1-2-3 inning before this?

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Ninth inning – last shot. Starts with Freddie. 5 best hitters in the lineup right now are lined up… if they wanna start something.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Freeman: lineout to 2nd. 1 down.

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

    Gattis… worked a 2-2 count…. strikeout on a second changeup around 80 mph.

Looking dismal. Cannot win em’ all. Until tomorrow… papa signing off the thread, but not the game.

    • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

All righty… be good… drive home safely.

      • http://www.tomahawktake.com/ Chris Headrick

I’m home already. Off day for me, butt comfortably ensconced in my man cave recliner

  • http://tomahawktake.com/ carpengui

Jason… 2-2 count… now full. He walks to extend the game.

Well, you can’t really complain about taking 2 of 3 on the road against anybody, but for the 2nd series in a row, they can’t put away an opponent after getting 2 wins to start the matchup.

And Justin ends it with a K. Braves fall, 6-1.
