Braves at Astros: Day Baseball Live Thread

Join us today at Tomahawk Take for our Live Game Thread, as the Atlanta Braves go for the sweep in game three against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX.

I love day baseball, and today’s game just happens to fall on one of my off-days, so not only do I get to catch the game, but I also get the thrill of talking about it with fellow fans in our Live Thread.  So, please join us!

I was immensely pleased with the performance of Alex Wood in his return to the starting rotation last night.  In seven innings pitched, Wood gave up zero run on just three hits, while walking just one Houston batter.  Wood struck out four batters while inducing 17 strikes looking, and 10 ground balls.  It was a brilliant performance!

Minor Vs. Cosart And Other Thoughts

Certainly Mike Minor has it in him to put up the same performance, and Mike Minor (2-4, 4.20 ERA) will take the mound for the final game of the series today, and hope to produce the same kind of effort for the sweep.  He will face Jarred Cosart (7-5, 3.78 ERA) who has been pretty good.  He outpitched David Price in an Astros recent win over the struggling Tampa Bay Rays, and the 6 foot 3 inch, 195 pound righty can throw upwards of 95 mph.

While Cosart appears to me to be a pitcher who will regress quickly, he shouldn’t be taken lightly by the Braves’ hitters.  He mostly throws a cut fastball and a curve, but he will throw in a change-up from time to time to try and mix up hitters.  His cut is reportedly quite good when he’s on, so we’ll have to hope he’s not today.
