The Atlanta Braves dominated the Philadelphia Phillies during this weekend series with a clean four game sweep.  This was a very crucial 11 game road stand for the Braves as they are fighting for the NL East division lead with the Washington Nationals.

The Braves went 8-3 during their road trip with the Nationals, Houston Astros and Phillies.  They split the series two games a piece with the Nats, took two of three games versus the Astros and then swept the four game set with the Phils.

With the victory on Sunday, the Braves move back into the top spot of the NL East over the Nationals.

“Unbelievable, to win that four game set is incredible,” said Fredi Gonzalez.  “We pitched well all series, swung the bats good and had some timely hitting.  To go on an 11 game road trip and go 8-3, that’s really good and I’m proud of the guys.”

The Braves now head back home to Atlanta with a 44-38 record.  The offense seems to be getting hot as they’ve scored 30 runs in their last seven games while only allowing 16 runs to opposing teams.

“We are sticking together, grinding it out and winning close ball games,” B.J. Upton said after the game.  “Pitching staff has been great, the bullpen has stepped into good situation and keeping them off the scoreboard.  You put all that together and the way we’ve been swinging the bat lately and you’re going to get some wins.”

Next up, the New York Mets…series starts on Monday at Turner Field.
