The Braves worked quickly on International signing day to lock down their fist choice prospect. Baseball America’s Ben Badler is reporting that the Braves signed their rumored prioritty prospect, 16-year-old Venezuelan third baseman Juan Yepez. The 6’ 195 pound teenager is said to have quick hands and a nice balanced swing that offers some pop.
Yepez has reportedly worked hard to get in better shape and improve his arm but scouts are split on whether he will stay at third base. Ricardo Petit, brother of Braves Latin American assistant director Rolando Petit, who trained shortstop Jose Peraza and Victor Reyes also trained Yepez No word yet on the size of his bonus but as I wrote yesterday it was rumored they were willing to set a team record by offering him their first 7 digit bonus.
