You just never get tired of this stuff… baseball players showing exceptional athletic skill.

And he’s our Andrelton Simmons.

Seventh Inning

Ho, hum…. routine grounder just out of the reach of Philip Gosselin.  But guess who’s there to get it.

Direct link here.

Eighth Inning, part 1

Jordan Walden got himself into trouble. Two on, nobody out in a 1-run game.  Then this grounder was turned into a helpful double play with an able assist from Tommy La Stella.  Sorry I can’t embed this one, but it’s still better when bigger.

Eighth Inning, part 2

Okay, that was good… but it set up this one…  which quite literally changed the game.  2 outs now with a runner on 3rd.  Sharp grounder into short left field… yes, that’s pretty much where the ball’s progress was halted and reversed.  Simmons was so far out there after his throw that he could have almost shaken hands with Pete Kozma on that infield fly play.  This would have tied things up… and who knows when the Braves might have scored again.

There were people – including Mets’ pitcher Zack Wheeler – comparing this play to something Derek Jeter might have done.

Pfft.

Even in his prime, Jeter dives for this ball… and maybe it deflects off his glove into left field.

But enough about that.  Feel free to put this one on Auto-repeat:

And finally, one from the Neighborhood Troll… DOB put him in his place:

I had to go check again… yes:  Andrelton Simmons is under contract through the 2020 season.  Good.
