Is Atlanta Braves Jason Heyward A 2015 Gold Glover?
By Jeff Schafer
The Atlanta Braves enter a very crucial series against the Washington Nationals on Monday night as they came into the game seven games back from the Nats and a half game back from the Pittsburgh Pirates for the second wild card spot in the NL.
With the game on the line, and possibly the 2014 season, the Braves fall to the Nationals 2-1 on Monday night. Atlanta is now eight games back from the Nats in the NL East and a game and half behind the Pirates.
One bright spot for the Braves was Jason Heyward‘s defense.
JHey made another tremendous catch in right field in the bottom of the third inning saving two runs. With men on second and third, Ian Desmond hit a curving ball down the right field line. Heyward sprinted to the ball and made a sliding catch over the foul line saving both runs and keeping the game 1-0 at the time.
Jason won a NL Gold Glove in 2012 and is in line to win his second award. He’s made numerous spectacular catches this season and the MLB is taking notice. Some think he’s a lock for the 2014 Gold Glove award and I’d have to agree.

The Braves are struggling offensively, there is no getting around that, so they must do everything they can to win games…which means great pitching and playing great defense. Heyward is playing his part, if the rest of the Braves can step up, we may just limp into the playoffs and possible get hot at the right time. Don’t give up Braves fans!!!
“It’s my fifth year and every year I’ve been fortunate to have something to play for going down the stretch and this year is no different,” Heyward said after the game. “Tomorrow is another game and we still have something to play for. It’s our responsibility and that’s the way we look at it.”
