The Atlanta Braves Playoff Chase Update

No, Atlanta’s recent 4-6 record has not helped matters as they were briefly in, then out of the second Wild Card position last week.

Then again we’re not Milwaukee.  Or Oakland, for that matter.

Fans of those teams have to be edging toward their open windows and wishing their offices opened onto a much higher floor.  Both clubs are experiencing something of a free-fall and are now in serious danger of missing the playoffs completely after having led their respective divisions for most of the season.

Other fans… have chosen more creative outlets through which to vent their frustrations (see graphic at right – which you may wish to hang onto for future reference):

Ah, but we continue to care mainly about the Bravos.  To the chart, please:

UPDATE:  The Reds beat the Cardinals 1-0 this afternoon, reducing the Cards’ lead over Pittsburgh to 3 games… for now at least.

It’s getting late.  But I do have quite a bit of good news to share:

  • The Braves are still in the hunt
  • The Texas Rangers are the worst team in baseball, and 1-9 in their last ten.  Plus, they’re actually worse when at home.
  • We have 3 home series’ remaining, and a 40-31 record at home.
  • The team that really needs to be beaten – Pittsburgh – is coming to Atlanta for 4 crucial games.
  • Atlanta currently owns the tie-breakers vs. both the Bucs and Brewers.

Two-and-a-half weeks.
