Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop and Box Score 9/24
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves came out swinging on Tuesday night…well more than they have in the last few weeks…Atlanta put two runs in early in the game against Pirates starter Gerrit Cole. One in the first off Freddie Freeman‘s bat and then again in the second inning. The Braves actually held a lead, 2-0, going into the top of the fourth inning…that evaporated quickly. The next three innings the Pirates scored a run in each and the game ended 3-2.

Pirates clinch playoff spot, beat Braves 3-2
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes: The Pirates are one of the hottest teams in baseball and it’s just unfortunate the Braves have to face them when we are struggling so much. Pittsburgh moved to a game and a half behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the NL Central crown. The Braves however moved to 76-81 and will have to win every game from here on out to avoid a losing record season. We have two more games with the Pirates and a three game series in Philadelphia.
The surging Pirates earned their second straight trip to the postseason with a 3-2 victory over the free-falling Braves on Tuesday night.
Cole gave up two runs in the first two innings and then didn’t allow another baserunner.
The Pirates’ win combined with Milwaukee’s loss to Cincinnati assured Pittsburgh of no worse than an NL wild card.
”I didn’t have any idea until I came in here,” Cole said.

Atlanta Braves management say getting back to “Braves Way” important
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves players opened up about the firing of Frank Wren on Monday. Personally, something had to be done and Wren was the prime subject of the moves made in the past few years that turned out bad. For change, something had to be done…Wren was fired.
The Atlanta Braves clubhouse was opened to reporters 30 minutes later than usual Monday, to give team officials time to meet with the players and talk about the firing of general manager Frank Wren and the team’s intention of getting back to doing things the “Braves way”.
“It was kind of a surprise,” first baseman Freddie Freeman said of the Wren firing. “You don’t get wrapped up in everything that is going on with the front office. As players, we obviously stay inside the clubhouse and go out and keep our minds on the field. I try to stay out of everything I can. I can’t really comment on things I don’t really know too much about. I’m going to leave it at that.”
