AL East Notes: Duquette, Napoli, Minaya, Long

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  The Braves are without a hitting coach, Kevin Long is without a job…is he the right person for the job?  Maybe not.  Is his hitting philosophy what we’re looking for in Atlanta?  Maybe not.  But Chipper Jones did support Long last night on twitter as a “sexy choice”.

Recently fired Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long is generating quite a bit of interest from other clubs, reports Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News (Twitter links). To this point, Long has already spoken with the Mets, Braves and Blue Jays, including a meeting with Mets GM Sandy Alderson. The D’Backs, Brewers and Pirates are all possibilities as well, per Feinsand.

Salcedo among seven Braves honing skills in AFL

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Salcedo spent a lot of his time in 2014 with the Gwinnett Braves…one step away from the majors.  Could this be another bad signing by Frank Wren when we look back on his regime?  It’s possible but Edward is still a young guy (23-years-old) and can turn his career around.  We’ll be following him all winter as he plays for the Peoria in the Arizona Fall League.

After the Braves gave Edward Salcedo a $1.6 million signing bonus before the start of the 2010 season, former general manager Frank Wren said the 18-year-old Dominican shortstop would have likely been a top-10 selection had he been eligible for the First-Year Player Draft.

Nearly five years later, Salcedo does not rank among MLB.com’s Top 20 Braves prospects. But the once-heralded prospect still stands as one of the most intriguing players Atlanta has sent to compete in this year’s Arizona Fall League.
