Atlanta Braves Hire Away Cubs’ Quality Assurance Coach, Jose Castro

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes:  The Atlanta Braves went to the Chicago Cubs for their new assistant hitting coach for the 2015 season.  Castro has been around the league, mostly in the minor leagues, and brings lots of experience to Atlanta.  The Cubs did seem to turn the page with their offense in 2015 with a few of their stars, it will be interesting to see what Jose brings to the Braves.

"The Atlanta Braves have hired Jose Castro as their assistant hitting coach, snaking him from the Cubs. Castro, 56, had spent the last two years as the Cubs’ quality assurance coach, and has been a hitting instructor in the game at various levels for 25+ years. “Quality Assurance” is obviously a strange-looking title for a baseball coach, but the concept has been around for a half decade. The role varies from team to team, but it can include scouting and statistical duties, as well as traditional coaching instruction. The Cubs could do some additional shifting on the coaching staff, or could just bring someone in from the outside. I doubt they do much too quickly, though, with the managerial situation potentially up in the air. Speaking of which, how’s this for a crazy coincidence: the man who pioneered the idea of having a quality assurance coach on staff? Yup, that’d be Joe Maddon."

Braves stadium bond appeal set for Feb. 2015

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes:  Currently, the plan for the Atlanta Braves is to move from Turner Field to the new ball park in 2017.  The Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority plans to issue up to $397 million dollars to fund the new stadium.  This new ball field/entertainment hub is something to definitely look forward to if you’re a Braves fan.

"The appeal of bonds Cobb County plans to use to fund construction of the new Atlanta Braves stadium has been placed on the Georgia Supreme Court’s February 2015 calendar.Three appeals to the bond plan were filed with the Supreme Court, the Marietta Daily Journal reports. The court has not decided whether to combine the appeals, the paper said."

Are Braves as good as Giants?

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes:  The San Francisco Giants are currently extremely better than the Atlanta Braves.  They play great small ball baseball and understand the importance of winning and playing as a team.  I believe that all reverts back to their manager Bruce Bochy.  The Giants have key players and others who know their role in the offense.  The 2014 Braves, did not.  We can only hope for a change in 2015.

"The Giants are probably better on the bench but who doesn’t have a better bench than the Braves? And of course Bruce Bochy is a far superior manager than Fredi Gonzalez. So why are the Giants in the World Series if the Braves match up so well with them. Well, it obvious. The Giants know how to win, they play hard, they play as a team, they scratch for a run, they don’t strike out often, they have solid at bats, they hit with runners in scoring position. All things that the Braves don’t do!"
