Less then a week after the conclusion of the 2014 MLB season, we were able to witness some of the MLB’s top prospects in action.

The Arizona Fall League played their West vs East game Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET and was shown on MLB Network and on MLB.com.  This is the ninth annual edition of this prospect game which usually features players that will shortly be promoted to the MLB level.

A few names to keep an eye on were Indians’ shortstop Francisco Lindor, Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager and Diamondbacks’ pitcher Archie Bradley.  Bradley started on the mound for the AFL East team and eventually picked up the win on Saturday night.

AFL West got on the board quickly and early.  In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Greg Bird hit a solo homer off Howard.  This homer was recorded as the longest home run in the nine year running of this game.  Then singles by Nimmo and Renda followed by a walk of Bell then a triple off the bat of Pompey…West went up 4-0.

Bradley pitched the first two innings for the West to get the team on the right track.  He gave only one hit and had one strikeout.

It wouldn’t be until the top of the 5th inning until we saw another run hit the board.

AFL East led off the inning with singles by Williams and Ohlman.  First and third, no outs…Atlanta Braves prospect Castro steps to the plate in hopes of getting East back in this game.  Daniel was unable to come through during this part of the game and pops out to the shortstop.  Williams was able to cross the plate on a pass ball during Leonard’s at-bat to make the score 4-1.

Top of the 6th inning, Hunter Renfroe led off for AFL East with a homer to left center field.  Making the score 4-2.

But in the bottom of the 6th inning, AFL West was able to score another run off singles by Rio Ruiz, Pompey and Roman Quinn.  Score is now 5-2.

Josh Bell led off the bottom of the 8th inning for AFL West with a single, followed by another single by Quinn and the score is now 6-2.

The game ended with AFL West defeating AFL East 6-2.  West had 11 hits compared to East’s six.  Howard picked up the loss while Bradley had the win.  With his home run in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Bird earned the Fall Stars Game MVP Award.

Braves Daniel Castro started at second base and hit eighth in the AFL West lineup.  He finished the game 1-2 with a single in the 3rd inning.
