For Braves, qualifying offer to Santana makes sense

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Ervin Santana was offered the qualifying offer by the Atlanta Braves on Monday.  We almost knew for a fact that the Braves would do this but they made it official on Monday.  The reason it makes sense is that Santana would be a great piece to the rotation puzzle in 2015 if he decides the $15.3 million is the right price tag for him OR if he decides not to accept and signs with another team, then the Braves get a compensatory pick between the first and second round in the 2015 MLB draft.

"Santana, who’ll be 32 in December, recently told his agent, Jay Alou, that he might accept the qualifying offer if the Braves made it. Alou has told him they should try to get some security with a contract of at least a few years in length, and pointed out to Santana that none of the 22 players who received qualifying offers in the first two years of the system accepted those offers (including Santana after the 2013 season with Kansas City). The qualifying offer is the average of the top 125 major league salaries the previous season. The amount was $14.1 million last winter and is up eight percent this year, with the $15.3 million figure high enough that some agents and major league team executives believe at least one or two free agents might accept the offer this time."

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Business’s are flocking to the new Atlanta Braves stadium destination as Taco Mac will open the doors in Cobb Country next week.  This part of Georgia should really begin to boom now that the brand new state of the art entertainment facility will be built right in this general area.

"Taco Mac is opening its newest location in Cumberland on Monday, November 10. The new T.Mac will feature the Atlanta chain’s latest design from ai3 and is located at 3101 Cobb Parkway SE, Suite 210, near the future home of the Atlanta Braves."

Bengals make practice squad moves

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  If you follow Dale Murphy on Twitter, you realize he is one very proud father.  His son, Jake Murphy, is now a part of the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad as he tries to take the steps to make a NFL team’s roster.  We will follow his progress as well as Dale’s Twitter feed to keep you updated if anything drastic happens.

"Justin Jackson, an undrafted rookie from Wake Forest, was the linebacker. He spent time in the preseason with the Lions and Vikings before Monday’s addition. He was joined by Jake Murphy, a rookie tight end who played in college at Utah. Murphy signed as an undrafted free agent with Oakland before getting added to the Dolphins’ practice squad in September.Murphy is the son of former Atlanta Braves outfielder Dale Murphy.Murphy, the football player, takes the place of Kevin Greene, a first-year tight end who came to Cincinnati earlier this year when the Bengals needed depth at the position when Tyler Eifertwent on the short-term injured reserve in Week 2. Eifert has been eligible to practice for two weeks, but he hasn’t yet. As a result, he won’t play Thursday as had been believed back when he first got hurt."
