PROSPECT REPORT: ALEX WILSON

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Alex Wilson was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with a 15th round draft pick in the 2012 draft. Wilson attended the University of Wofford.  He will probably start the 2015 season with the AA Mississippi Braves but could move up if he continues to pitch well.  Depending on the Braves season and where they are in the later months of the season, Wilson has the chance to pitch for the Braves in 2015…but most likely he is a candidate to be on the Braves roster come 2016.

"Wilson has put up good numbers in each of his first three seasons of pro ball. He’ll be 24 years old next April, when he’ll probably report to Double-A Mississippi to start the 2015 season. But if he continues to produce solid statistics, he might not be in the minor leagues much longer.Last season in Lynchburg, Wilson pitched in 42 games and saved 16. He had a 2.02 ERA, with 49 hits allowed in 62.1 innings, 18 walks and 57 strikeouts. The year before in Rome, Wilson had a 3.59 ERA in 33 games, with eight saves. In his first season with the Braves, Wilson posted a 2.73 ERA for the Danville Braves in the summer of 2012."

Former Cardinals SS Furcal injured

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Rafael Furcal played most of his career with the Atlanta Braves and his style of play still holds deep within most Braves fans hearts.  Frugal was that do-everything shortstop and the Braves leadoff guy for six seasons.  The now 37-year-old made three All-Star games, one with the Braves in 2003 and was the 2000 Rookie of the Year while playing with the Braves.  He had a career slash line of .284/.348/.409 with the Braves with 189 stolen bases.

"ESPN reports that former St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Rafael Furcal has torn his hamstring while playing in the Dominican winter league, apparently dealing a blow to his latest comeback attempt. The Philadelphia Phillies have been reported to be interested in Furcal this off-season.The member of the 2011 World Series winners missed all but a handful of games last season when he was with the Miami Marlins thanks to hamstring issues. His Cardinals career ended when he missed the entire 2013 campaign after he tore a ligament in his elbow and had to have Tommy John surgery."
