Wednesday’s trade of Evan Gattis brought questions about the makeup of the Braves outfield this year. Following the trade David O’Brien suggested that they are looking to bring in another outfielder.

That being the case it’s time we look at the available players on the roster and in the system as well as those still on the market.

The Outfield Today

If that sounds like a soap opera it nearly qualifies for the title. There are only two names penciled in for 2015; Nick Markakis in right and B.J. Upton in center. I can hear the groans but unless a miracle occurs and someone thinks it’s worthwhile to take BJ on, the Braves have to give their $15M Mendoza line CF a chance to pay his way.

As Alan noted two weeks ago and John Hart and Fredi Gonzalez said during the winter meetings that, unlike last year, BJ’s salary will not guarantee him a starting spot. His future has been discussed so much it’s boring so I’m bypassing him  and Nick Markakis’ neck issue completely and moving on to the other suspects.
