Major League Baseball Expected To Make Announcement On New Changes To Pace Of Play
By Jeff Schafer
Major League Baseball and new commissioner Rob Manfred are expected to announce changes that will be made to the game of baseball on Friday.
Modifying rules to the MLB don’t come often but with the new commissioner of baseball on his way into the sport, he may want to make a splash first thing. His first plan of attack – the pace of play.
Reported tonight by Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, MLB is expected to add three rules all associated with the pace of the game.

The three new rules are expected to be…
1. Managers must challenge any replay from inside the dugout
2. All hitters must keep at least one foot inside the box unless an established exception occurs
3. Play must resume promptly once the television broadcast returns from their commercial break
Lets look deeper into these…
-Managers will not be allowed to step onto the field of play and make challenges to a previous play. During 2014, managers would run onto the field and stall while they wait for other coaches to watch a replay to see if they should challenge or not. Now, this rule eliminates that…very positive
-No more Nomar Garciaparra-ing or David Ortiz-ing at the plate. Batters must keep one foot inside the batter’s box at all times. In years past, hitters could step outside the box to fix themselves, take a breather, get signs or get a pitcher off his game. This rule eliminates that…positive
-This rule sounds like MLB will be on the same formats as other sports…wait until the broadcast is back, then you resume play. A designated broadcast employee will probably be on the field waiting for his cue to tell the umpires to start play again. This rule will speed the game up…positive
All three rules (only ones being reported right now, could be more) will be beneficial to the game of baseball and will help contain the casual fan’s attention.
We won’t know the exact new rule packages until tomorrow but if these rumors are true, what do y’all think? Lets hear it in the comments.
