Wandy Rodriguez Released By Atlanta Braves, Eric Stults Wins Starting Spot, Other Roster Moves

Atlanta Braves announced on Friday afternoon that they have made some roster moves.  This was definitely expected to come today but a few moves may catch you off guard.

Starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez, who was pretty much guaranteed the fourth spot in the rotation a few weeks ago, was released by the organization this morning.  This move was made because of the trade the Braves made last night with bringing Trevor Cahill to Atlanta from Arizona.

Eric Stults has pitched very well down the stretch of the 2015 Spring Training and at the end, he beat out Rodriguez.  MLB.com and Braves beat writer Mark Bowman reported yesterday that the Braves did not want to go into the 2015 regular season with both Rodriguez and Stults, two soft-throwing lefties, at the backend of the rotation.

The rotation will look like this for the time being…

1. Julio Teheran

2. Alex Wood

3. Shelby Miller

4. Trevor Cahill

5. Eric Stults

Other roster moves that were made this afternoon were catcher Jesus Flores, Jose Constanza were both released.  Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang will report to Minor League camp.

This now leaves 34 players in the big league camp. As reported by Kevin McAlpin, Fredi expects the roster to be set tomorrow (Saturday). The deadline to set your MLB roster is noon on Sunday.
