Atlanta Braves New: The Morning Chop and Box Score
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Atlanta Braves newcomer, Trevor Cahill didn’t last long in his first appearance of the season. He pitched into the 3rd inning but after giving up four runs on five hits and three walks, he was removed. Brandon Cunniff pitched well in relief and we saw Sugar Ray Marimon for the first time. He was promoted the day prior to the Braves. Offense? Freddie Freeman and A.J. Pierzynski went back-to-back with homers in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Offense perks up in Marlins win over Braves
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Miami Marlins offense will wake up at some point this season. They have a solid core of young bats that will get going. Last night proved some of the offensive pop that they do have. Christian Yelich didn’t even play which he’s a guy I’m almost worried about when he’s at the plate. When it comes down to September, the Braves and Marlins may be battling for a Wild Card spot. These early match-ups could come back to help the Braves. Lets win the series today!
"“I walked in here today right and there were a lot of bats on the floor,” said second baseman Dee Gordon” href=”http://www.sun-sentinel.com/topic/sports/baseball/dee-gordon-PESPT000011631-topic.html”>Dee Gordon, who wouldn’t fess up to being the protagonist behind the bat upheaval. “I was like, ‘Whoever did that, they were pretty smart. It helped. He’s a team player I guess.”“These guys are in good spirits,” manager Mike Redmond said, before the 8-2 win at Turner Field. “There’s a lot that goes on in that clubhouse between 12 and the game time. It’s more about consistency, showing up being the same guy every day. You need guys to be able to make you laugh and have fun in spite of where you’re at. I’d love to say baseball is a game where everything is great all the time, but it isn’t. Every team goes through winning streaks where you’re feeling good and feeling high and losing streaks where you can’t seem to do anything right.”"
Atlanta Braves release OF Carlos Quentin, who was acquired in Craig Kimbrel trade
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: When the Atlanta Braves traded Craig Kimbrel to the San Diego Padres, they acquired Carlos Quentin within the deal. Within hours, the Braves told the media that they had designated Quentin for assignment. Then on Tuesday, he was released. If Quentin does sign with another team, the Braves would owe him his full salary minus the amount his new team is paying him.
"The Atlanta Braves on Tuesday releasedoutfielder Carlos Quentin, after designating him for assignment almost immediately upon acquiring him in the Craig Kimbrel trade.Quentin, 32, is now free to sign with any major league club. The Braves are responsible for his entire $8 million salary this season, plus a $3 million buyout of the $10 million he is owed in 2016."
Braves executive encourages bike riding to new Cobb stadium
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves new stadium/entertainment facility will be here before you know it and we’re all looking forward to seeing it complete. Braves executives have to think about what the new ball park will be and still the next two years at Turner Field. How about ride you bike to a game? Man, that would be great.
"Braves executive Mike Plant is encouraging business owners and fans to consider alternatives to cars when traveling to the team’s new Cobb County stadium when it opens in 2017. One idea he likes – bicycles.Plant said Tuesday at a Kennesaw Business Association meeting he hopes local community improvement districts will consider extending their biking trails toward the stadium, reports M arietta Daily Journal.Plant serves on the board of the Cumberland CID, the paper adds.“We’re working closely with the CIDs because we’re going to have a lot of bikers, and we want people to ride there, certainly on the weekends and take cars off the road,” the MDJ quotes Plant as saying."
