Atlanta Braves – “No Interest Whatsoever In Trading Jose Peraza”

Tomahawk Take’s, Alan Carpenter, wrote earlier today about the New York Yankees being interested in acquiring the Atlanta Braves top prospect Jose Peraza.  MLB scout Jeff Wren, yes former Braves General Manager Frank Wren’s brother and former Braves scout and special assistant, first mentioned that the Yankees would be sending a scout to Gwinnett to watch Peraza two days ago.

Once this was tweeted out by Jeff Wren, the rumors started to swirl around the web and twitter.  Many Braves fans were angry over another possible blockbuster trade happening.  Others, leaned back and thought about Yankees prospects.  One of which came up was 6’7″, 275 pound outfielder, Aaron Judge.  The 22-year-old would fit in very nicely in the Braves organization that lacks outfield prospects.  But they can’t send away our top prospect that we’ve been waiting for…right?

The scout the Yankees have sent to Gwinnett is reportedly Dennis Twombley.  Well, he can go and watch some baseball but he shouldn’t worry about taking any notes.

According to Braves beat writer Mark Bowman, Braves assistant General Manager John Coppolella has stomped on any trade rumors.

"“We have no interest whatsoever in trading Jose Peraza,” Braves assistant general manager John Coppolella said. “Teams scout top prospects all the time, as we do other team’s top prospects. It was just a case where one of their scouts was sent to watch one of our guys.”"

The big outfielder, Judge, would be a great fit for the Braves as they extremely lack any power potential in the minors, but we can all breathe a sigh of relief.  Or…

Atlanta’s front office has told us this before.  GM John Hart told the media that they had no plans on trading both Evan Gattis and Craig Kimbrel, then they did.

As we sit on April 16th, it’s tough to trust anything Hart is telling us, but I’m confident we can believe what Coppolella is telling us.  Peraza is a contact hitter that gets on base a lot.  His speed is where he stands out and is great on the base paths.  He’s offensively skilled as well as defensively.

Peraza is currently hitting .214/.267/.250 for Gwinnett with one stolen base, two walks, two runs and a double in seven games.  The Braves top prospect is flying through the minor league ranks but these are the first seven games he’s played in Triple-A.

He was invited to the Braves 2015 Spring Training but struggled mightily.  In 16 plate appearances he batted .063 with only one single.

The 20-year-old switched to second base in 2014 after playing mainly shortstop his entire career.  He was moved because well, Andrelton Simmons.
