Atlanta Braves: Andrelton Simmons Makes Another Terrific Play In Toronto

Becoming the human highlight reel, Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons made another magnificent play on Saturday afternoon.

The Braves were defeated by the Blue Jays 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday, but that won’t stop us from talking about the game.  Jim Johnson gave up a two-run home run to Jose Bautista in the bottom of the 8th inning to put the Jays up 5-4.  But then, Kelly Johnson hit a homer for the Braves in the 9th to put the game into extra innings.  Later, in the bottom of the 10th inning, Josh Donaldson blasted a walk off homer off Sugar Ray Marimon.

Let’s rewind though…in the bottom of the 7th inning in Saturday’s game, Jays Devon Travis hit a soft fly ball to the part of the field that can frustrate pitchers and defensive players…if you’re a ball player, you know this spot I’m speaking of.

That spot, Braves usually don’t have to worry about it.  Why’s that?  Andrelton Simmons.

Simmons chased down this soft fly ball and made the sliding spectacular catch.

Yes, this is the play everyone on Twitter and at the water cooler will be talking about, but what about the other play he made earlier in the game.

This play didn’t save a run, decide the final score or even make an out.  This play is spectacular because it actually shows what kind of player we have at shortstop.

Simmons ran the ground ball down in left field to save an extra base hit.  Even Chip Carey and Joe Simpson were impressed and said on the broadcast that it was something they’ve never seen before.

Simba is an amazing shortstop and a player that fans can tune in every night just to watch.

Travis d’Arnaud

.  It was a fantastic play and very similar to the one he made versus d’Arnaud in 2014.  Take a listen to their analysis of the two different plays and how Simmons out-preformed his play of the previous year.
