Last week this time, (last Monday) the Atlanta Braves were 5-1 after sweeping the Miami Dead Fish and taking 2 of 3 from the New York Pest.
At the time I was seriously thinking “we look good”, and based on record alone we have to be given some sort of respect around the league right?
WRONG!
screenshot taken from Twitter implying that the Atlanta Braves have absolutely NO chance at winning and will just roll over for the Nationals, Marlins and Mets… no respect
Last week’s rankings…
CBS Sports | 25 of 30
ESPN | 14th
Rant Sports | 13th
Bleacher Report | 14th
Fox Sports | 26th
USA Today | 25th
Now I am a realist, I am not expecting people to look at us the way that I see them because I am a fan. But I make every attempt to be an UnBiased Brave and give things a holistic point of view.
I would like for these experts and commentators to AT LEAST look at the records after the first week and rank accordingly.
We were the last team in the National League to lose a game. The only 2 teams that were still undefeated at the time were Detroit and Kansas City and in most rankings, they received their praise but we still got disrespected and overlooked as shown in the above rankings.
In some polls, the teams that were JUST beat, New York AND Miami were STILL ranked above us.
How is that (expletive) possible?
Fast forward to this week’s (Week 3/Week 2 ending) ranking…
Again, let’s look at JUST records because the teams around the league are still adjusting to injuries and becoming acclimated with each other.
On records ALONE the Top 10 rankings should be (as of 4/20 at 12:00 p.m.):
Detroit (10-2)
Screenshot taken from ESPN showing that they beat US to go 4-0 instead of us beating THEM to go 4-0… no respect.
NY Mets (10-3)
Kansas City (9-3)
Dodgers (9-3)
St. Louis (8-3)
Atlanta (8-4)
San Diego (8-5)
Baltimore (7-5)
Boston (7-5)
Colorado (7-5)
BUT… the disrespect is still thick in the room:
- CBS Sports, has us ranked 9th (up 16 spots)
- ESPN, has us ranked 16th (down 2 spots, really?)
- Rant Sports, has us ranked 16th (down 3 spots? Is this a joke?)
- Bleacher Report, has us ranked 12th (up 2 spots)
- Fox Sports, has us ranked 24th (up 2 spots, are you bleepin kidding me?)
- USA Today, has us ranked 12th (up 13 spots)
I think that since we were overlooked and written off in the preseason rankings and these guys had us SO low on their list, they didn’t want to eat Crow and admit that we look better than they thought?
It’s ok, humble pie can be a little bitter.
BUT REALLY

Fox Sports 24th out of 30? They have the Miami Marlins… who we swept, the San Francisco Giants (only 4 wins), the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox (both with 4 wins), the Toronto Blue Jays … who we took 2 of 3 from, the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels (both with 5 wins) AND the Washington Nationals (6-7/ranked 3rd) all ahead of us. That is just disrespectful.
I know the guys at ESPN have their love affair with everything involving the New York Spankees and Boston Bloody Sox but 16th? And that is DOWN from the week prior.
Really?
No REALLY really?
Who do we have to Row Sham Bow to make you guys see us as being legit?
I was so furious when I saw these rankings.
It isn’t merely a slap in the face to us fans; it is a kick in the nards to the entire organization.

We built a system of winning … we wrote the modern day era book on it!
I know it might seem like a small joyous occasion to kick us when we are down but at least have a little class with it.
We operate with dignity and a high expectation of playing the game the way it should be played.
Yeah we had a few rough years and we acted out of character as an organization but to look past the obvious records that we PLAYED FOR and be oblivious to the 1 error we have committed the entire year (1st), the 21 double plays that we’ve turned (1st), the .998 Fielding Percentage (1st), the .350 team era (12th), the 7 saves (2nd in MLB, Grilli-Cheese is saves leader with all 7), the .246 batting average (12th), the .313 OBP (14th), the .406 SLG (11th), the .719 OPS (10th)….

Y’all keep overlooking us and act like you don’t see us looking FOR REAL.
Keep disrespecting the name on the #FrontOfTheJersey
We are going to MAKE you respect it again.
You guys have been warned.
Let’s go Braves Country, stand up for our team.
