Oh, this was ugly. No pitcher was safe. Even the (only) one who didn’t give up a run still walked two hitters.
It seemed like the perfect opportunity to work John Cornely into a game (finally)… and yet nothing went well. He faced 7 hitters, 5 reached base and 4 scored. Trevor Cahill was used out of the bullpen in an attempt to put out the campfire that starter Alex Wood left smouldering. Instead, he picked up a gasoline can rather than the hose.
On offense, the Braves did get 8 more hits, but only 1 walk against 10 strikeouts. That wasn’t the plan.
