Injury Update: Atlanta Braves Chris Johnson Out 3-6 Weeks
By Jeff Schafer
During game one of the series between the Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves Chris Johnson injured his hand while attempting to steal second base.
In the bottom of the 4th inning Johnson tried to steal second, but was thrown out. In the process, his left hand got caught underneath his body and bent awkwardly.
“It stuck a little bit when I slid,” Johnson explained of his injury. “My hand was out and it kind of jammed it backwards.”
Johnson had been playing well as of late in the field and has a slash line of .279/.347/.372 for the 2015 season.
Here is a video from MLB.com that you’ll see his wrist bend backwards.
“We have to put him on the DL,” Fredi Gonzalez said after last nights game. “It’s a fracture of the left hand. He’s going to go get some tests and find out more. Either way though, we have to put him on the DL.”
“I’ll get an MRI tomorrow morning,” Johnson said last night. “They are going to check the ligaments between the fracture and see if those are all right. Then we’ll probably have a timetable.”
Well, we have a clearer picture of the injury and what a possible timetable will be for his return.
“It stinks, I love playing,” Johnson continued with. “Now that I’ll be on the DL, that will stink a little for me because I want to be out there any play baseball. But, I’ll get better and I’ll be back.” For the time-being, we’ll see plenty of Alberto Callaspo and Philip Gosselin at third base.
Also, a Roster Update: A move will be made after the game tonight for a positional player. Though, I don’t think we should get our hopes up for top prospect Jose Peraza. He’s not hitting his best in Gwinnett and I think the Braves would prefer giving him more time.
This could be Adonis Garcia who has been tearing the cover off the baseball with a .328 batting average. Or it could be Pedro Ciriaco….just two guesses.
