Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score and Happy Mother’s Day!
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Atlanta Braves starting pitcher, Julio Teheran, didn’t impress anyone on the mound yesterday afternoon. He gave up 10 hits, two homers, three walks and six earned runs. He now holds a 4.74 ERA for the 2015 season…not what we want out of Teheran. One thing I noted when watching the game on Saturday, the Braves had runners on first and second in the 8th inning after Andrelton Simmons and Freddie Freeman both singled. Then, Kelly Johnson came to the plate. His AB was horrible I thought. Johnson was swinging for the fences and be the hero once again instead of helping the team. He struck out on three straight pitches from Aaron Barrett. The Braves were able to get two runs in this inning and tie the game, but at the time they had no outs and in a great position after being no where close to being in the game all day.

Harper homers in 9th, his 6th HR in 3 games; Nats top Braves
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves fought back on Saturday to make this game a contest, but then Bryce Harper stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 9th inning. Right now, the 22-year-old can hit any pitch thrown to him, anywhere it’s pitched. Julio Teheran was smart in the 1st inning when he walked him on four pitches that weren’t close to the strike zone. Today, Fredi Gonzalez should seriously think about not giving this guy anything to hit. The curveball from Cody Martin in the bottom of the 9th inning that Harper crushed, that was probably going to be a ball in the dirt, but he went down and got it.
"Swinging hard at a curveball that nearly hit the dirt, Harper did it again – extending his remarkable run with a two-run shot that sent the Nationals past the Braves 8-6 Saturday.”Right when I hit it, I knew it was gone,” he said.Harper homered for the sixth time in his last three games, one off the major league record set by Shawn Green in 2002."
G-Braves Roast IronPigs, 5-1
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Atlanta Braves top prospect Jose Peraza went 1-5 on Saturday with one run scored. He is now hitting .296 with an on-base percentage of .339 for the 2015 season. Gwinnett Braves’ Joe Benson misplayed another ball in right field on Saturday and now has five errors in 19 games. Gwinnett is currently in last place in the International League South with a 14-15 record. Lehigh Valley is the worst team in the league, so hopefully we can expect another win on Sunday.
"The Gwinnett Braves (14-15) erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth inning and coasted to a 5-1 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (9-21) Saturday night in game two of the three-game series at Coca-Cola Park. Most of the game was a pitching duel between Gwinnett’s Greg Smith and Lehigh Valley starter and former Kell High School (Marietta) star Adam Morgan. However, the G-Braves did take the early lead when Eury Perez led off the game with a solo home run to left off of Morgan. Perez’s first blast of the season made it 1-0 Gwinnett."
