This topic has bugged me for quite a while, and it has just been re-kindled with the word that the Marlins will be promoting(?) General Manager Dan Jennings to the position of Field Manager.

His qualifications?

  • Scout
  • Front office official
  • coached at Davidson High School in Mobile, AL just after getting out of college.

As pointed out by the USA Today, Jennings’ entire resume as a player amounts to this:

"Jennings has never played in a professional game; he attended spring training with a New York Yankees Class A affiliate after they signed him out of a tryout camp in 1984."

But skills are not actually my concern or focus today… if the Marlins wish to destroy themselves from within, then I’m good with that… it helps the Braves.

But I’ve always wondered this:  should baseball’s managers wear the uniform of their teams?
