Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop and Box Score – Braves lose Game One 6-3
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Brett Anderson, yes the same Brett Anderson who had a great 2009 year with the Oakland A’s, but nothing since, pitched pretty well against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. He went 7 innings, giving up seven hits, two runs and two walks, with three strikeouts. He made Freddie Freeman look awful at the plate in the 3rd inning with two great curveballs. It just gets tougher tonight as the Braves face Clayton Kershaw. The Braves left-handed dominate lineup will probably struggle tonight. This could be an ugly game for Braves fans…but let’s hope not.

Braves working to trade Alberto Callaspo
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Around 3pm on Monday, when the lineups usually come on, Callaspo was slotted in the sixth hole in the batting order. Something between then and around 7:30pm happened. This occurrence is currently unknown, but we are speculating that Callaspo was probably told he is getting shopped or will be DNF’ed when Chris Johnson returns. This might have upset Callaspo. David O’Brien said he did notice Callaspo showed up later than everyone else to the field, but was in the dugout during the game. This situation will definitely be cleared up within the next few days.
"Callaspo, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Atlanta last December, has played both third base and second base for the team, hitting just .206/.293/.252 with one home run in 37 games in his tenth major-league season. He is a lifetime .265/.328/.366 hitter with 52 home runs in 1,033 career games with the Diamondbacks (2006-2007), Royals(2008-2010), Angels (2010-2013), Athletics (2013-2014) and Braves (2015).Though it is currently unknown which teams are interested in acquiring Callaspo, many teams around the league would likely be willing to add veteran depth to their infield mix. Among the potential suitors are the Mets (who are using Eric Campbell at third base while David Wright deals with back issues) and Brewers (who have dealt with struggles all season at second base from both Scooter Gennett and Hector Gomez)."
Chris Johnson‘s first rehab game with Gwinnett Braves cut short by rain
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Chris Johnson’s first rehab game on Monday was rained out in the 2nd inning with Johnson getting one at-bat. In his only plate appearance, he went 0-1 with a line out to center field. Though he only got to the box once on Monday, the positive is that he had no setbacks. The Gwinnett Braves are planning to makeup this game on Tuesday and also play their regular scheduled Tuesday game. It hasn’t been announced yet how much he’ll play on Tuesday, but if he plays both games, this may be enough to be called up.
"Johnson says he is not feeling any pain from the bone bruises and fracture near the thumb.“Actually it feels pretty good,” said Johnson, who took batting practice at Turner Field on Sunday. “There was one day where there was some soreness after a long day of BP (in Florida). I took the next day off and then after that it’s felt pretty good.”The third baseman was hitting .279 with a .347 on-base percentage in 16 games when he was injured."
