Atlanta Braves: Gwinnett Braves Shortstop Elmer Reyes Arrested

According to a report in the Columbus Dispatch, Gwinnett Braves shortstop Elmer Reyes was arrested during the team’s visit to Columbus Ohio last weekend.

The report in the Dispatch says that Reyes was arrested for rape and kidnapping early Saturday morning May 23rd.  The complaint was filed by two women who met Reyes after the game Friday night for a drink.

When they got ready to leave Reyes said he didn’t want them to drive home after drinking so he paid for a hotel room. the complaint says that he accompanied them to the room and after one of the ladies went to sleep “…Reyes then allegedly made sexual advances to the woman, pinning her down on the bed and forcing intercourse. “

The complaint was filed the following morning. Reyes is now out on bond. the Braves responded with this statement a little while ago.

"“We were very concerned to learn of the arrest of Elmer Reyes in Franklin County on Saturday (May 23) morning,” the statement read. “We will withhold further comment until we learn additional details and have all of the facts.”"

Reyes – ranked as the Braves #29 prospect by Baseball America – hasn’t played since Friday night. The Braves placed him on the restricted list while the investigation continues. He is scheduled to return to Columbus for court on June 2nd.
