Atlanta Braves Newcomer Juan Uribe Lost An “I” From His First Jersey

The Atlanta Braves officially announced the trade of Alberto Callaspo, Juan Jaime, Eric Stults and Ian Thomas for Juan Uribe and Chris Withrow yesterday after hours of speculation.  Because the teams were playing each other in a three game series, these players didn’t have to travel far to meet their new teammates.

Uribe is a veteran of the sport, to be factually he’s been in the MLB for 15 years.  The 36-year-old has played for five teams now – Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, Los Angles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves.

Though he’s never won a Gold Glove or attended an All-Star game, he’s always been a productive ball player.  Uribe has a career slash line of .256/.301/.420 with 179 homers.

After news broke yesterday, it took a few hours for the MLB to approve the trade and then the players were off.  Uribe joined his new team in time to take batting practice prior to Wednesday night’s game.  What he didn’t expect was to receive a jersey with the wrong spelling of his name on the back of it.

I guess we can give the Braves personnel or whoever sewing the brand new jersey a little break since they only had a few hours to get these made and on the back of Uribe.  Plus it is kind of a difficult name to spell if you’re not used to it.  But come on, you’d think they would double check that or their supervisor (or whoever for that matter) catch this mistake.

Or, it’s possible (I guess) that the letter could had fallen off like the Fox Sports South reporters claimed last night.

These were just the Braves warmup jerseys so at least they got the in-game ones correct.

It took a little while, but someone finally spotted this mishap.  The Braves trainer, Jeff Porter, was able to find some masking tape to complete Uribe’s name.
