Late Inning Stabs Make Atlanta Braves Fall To San Francisco Giants In Game 1

On a cold, windy night both starting pitches for the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants were cruising through the game on Thursday evening.  If you didn’t stay awake for the game, Shelby Miller and Chris Heston dominated hitters for the first seven innings.  The Braves only had three hits off Heston in the first seven innings and totaled only four hits in the game.

Giants on the other hand, they had 12 hits and seven runs.

Giants defeated the Braves, 7-0 in game one of this four game series.

Like I said, Miller pitched dominate for the Braves once again.  He went seven innings giving up five hits and one run.  That run was a huge one in the 7th inning as Brandon Belt blasted an opposite field home run to break the ice on the scoreboard.

“It was a bad pitch,” Miller said of the fastball he threw to Belt. “It was a four-seamer right down the middle. If I could take it back, I would. It’s a tough hit to give up at that point in the ballgame. It kind of gave them some momentum.”

At the :57 mark you’ll see Belt’s home run off Miller.  The wind definitely got a hold of that ball and sailed it into the crowd, but never less it counted.  Also in the video you’ll get a glimpse of the dominant performance from the man who made the Braves look like a Doulbe-A team at the plate…Chris Heston.

So where did all the runs come from??

In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Giants poured it on as they scored six runs and five off relief pitcher Brandon Cunniff.  He was only able to get one out in the 8th inning while giving up four hits, a walk and five runs.  Donnie Veal then tried to replace Cunniff, but he gave up three hits and a run…he was able to get the last two outs of the inning though.
