Phil The Bucket Recruiting David Carpenter to the Atlanta Braves?

The New York Yankees designated for assignment relief pitcher David Carpenter on Wednesday afternoon.  This sent the Atlanta Braves fan base haywire on social media outlets screaming “Bring back David Carpenter!”

This offseason, the Braves sent Carpenter and Chasen Shreve to the Yankees for former top prospect Manny Banuelos.  This trade seemed to be pretty even on both sides, but since then the Braves bullpen has fallen off the planet in recent weeks.

The 29-year-old has struggled in 2015 since joining the Yankees, but this could be related to the pressure that goes into pitching with the pinstripes on your uniform.  Playing in Yankee Stadium is unlike any other and this could have gotten to this relief pitcher.  Though in 2013 (his final season with the Braves) he didn’t pitch that well either.

As Fred wrote yesterday, the Braves are actively searching for bullpen help.  He gave us a couple relief pitcher’s names who could potentially help the Braves.  One of which was Carpenter.  He suggested though, “I don’t see him as an answer unless he’s free – clears waivers and elects free agency – but the cupboard is pretty bare so he could return via trade.”

It’s no question that the Braves bullpen needs help.  During the most recent 10 game road trip, the bullpen had a 9.28 ERA with 22 earned runs given up in 21.1 innings. Carpenter could potentially come back to Atlanta and help out this team that is in desperation mode.  At least here, he’ll have the confidence of a fan base that wants him wearing the uniform.

When Carpenter was with the Braves organization he grew a relationship bond with Phil the Bucket on Twitter.  Yes, the Home Depot bucket that runs around the outfield. Phil the Bucket sent Carpenter a tweet the other day to possibly recruit him to coming back?

Some of the lyrics in this song go like this….

‘Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

All the flowers that you planted, mama
In the back yard
All died when you went away
I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard
But I’m willing to give it another try

Nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

See the message in the song??

Then Carpenter responded…

Check out these lyrics…

So let the light guide your way hold every memory
As you go and every road you take will always lead you home

It’s been a long day without you my friend
And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
We’ve come a long way from where we began
Oh I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
