Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score and Draftees Signing

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: If you’re scared of nasty things, don’t look below at the Atlanta Braves pitching box score. Julio Teheran actually pitched great from innings two through five, but that first and sixth inning….u-g-l-y. In all, he gave up 13 hits to the Boston Red Sox – a career high for him and gave up six earned runs. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, but then the wheels came off. Juan Uribe was on fire at the plate as he was crushing line drives all day – he went 3-4.

Austin Riley expected to sign with Braves on Wednesday
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The time is now for the selections of the 2015 draft to sign their first professional contract. It’s exciting times for these young men who dream of this day and becoming a professional athlete. Austin Riley, who was selected by the Atlanta Braves with the 41st pick in the Competitive Balance Round A. Riley, who plays both third base and pitches, will probably be slated as a pitcher for the Braves. After they drafted him, the Braves tweeted out that they drafted three straight pitchers in the draft. Riley already throws 95 mph off the mound.
"A good day for the Atlanta Braves will mean a bad day for Mississippi State.DeSoto Central standout Austin Riley is expected to pass on attending MSU and sign a contract with the Braves on Wednesday, according to his high school coach Mark Monaghan.The Braves selected Riley 41st overall in last week’s MLB Amateur Draft. The slot value for the selection is $1.5 million. A deal is expected to be completed Wednesday pending a physical."
Islanders pitcher Trevor Belicek selected by Atlanta in MLB Draft
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Trevor Belicek signs his first major league contract on Tuesday with the Atlanta Braves. The left-handed pitcher was drafted in the 16th round with the 480th pick in the draft out of the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Islanders. He ended his senior season with a 2.87 ERA and was ranked 12th in the nation with 11.4 strikeouts per 9 innings.
"It’s been an exciting week for Islanders pitcher Trevor Belicek. He was drafted in the 16th round by the Atlanta Braves, and Friday he signed his contract. Michelle Margaux was there for the big moment…"
Justin Ellison (Hardaway) sign pro contracts
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves selected many, many pitchers in the 2015 draft, 13 out of their first 14 picks were pitchers (if they are considering Austin Riley a pitcher, see above). The Braves selected Lucas Herbert, a catcher, in the 2nd round with the 54th pick. The first positional player after Herbert was Justin Ellison in the 12th round with the 360th pick. He’s a CF out of Western Oklahoma State. He bats and throws left-handed.
