The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday evening 5-2.  The Braves are now 32-35 in the 2015 season while the Red Sox improve to 29-39.  The two teams split this series two games a piece (two in Boston, two in Atlanta).

In the top of the 6th inning, with the Red Sox leading 1-0, Juan Uribe dropped a pop foul ball about a foot over the white line.  It was a routine play that he should have made easily, but just misplayed it and it fell to the ground.

This gave Mookie Betts new life at the plate and then singled.  The Red Sox went on to score three runs in that inning and never looked back.

“That was obviously a tough inning,” Braves starting pitcher Shelby Miller said after the game.  “I think that’s the reason we lost the game.”

Uribe has been terrific since being acquired by the Dodgers both offensively and defensive so we can’t put too much blame on his shoulders.  Evan Miller blamed himself instead of Uribe in his post game interview.

“Those things happen,” Miller said.  “Obviously just bad luck.  It’s not something that you can get down on, or say if it didn’t happen those runs don’t score.  That’s just not the game of baseball.  Those things happen.  I didn’t do a good job personally getting out of it.  I gave up some hits over the middle of the plate that were pretty crucial at times, and they ended up putting together a big inning.  I felt like that’s the reason why we lost the ballgame.  I go out there and give up three runs again, just like last time.  Not a good job.”

Braves score two in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Red Sox added another in the 7th to make the score 5-2.  That’s how it ended.

One streak ended while one made history!

Thursday marked a rare occurrence in the game of baseball…Freddie Freeman‘s streak of consecutive games played ended at 234.  This was currently the Major League best, but it was snapped because of Freeman’s sprained right wrist.  Yes, this includes games where he came into late or pinch hit.

Nick Markakis set the all-time record of Major League outfielders with the most consecutive errorless games at 393.

The Braves stay home at Turner Field for a weekend series with the New York Mets starting on Friday.  Atlanta’s number two rated top prospect, Matt Wisler, is starting game one of the series.  This is schedule to start at 7:35pm ET.
