The Atlanta Braves stand today at 35-37, barely out of second place in the NL’s Eastern Division. While it’s still reasonably early yet, they nonetheless settling into a position in which the playoffs will be out of reach if the division is not won outright.
Yes, even as I write this, I’m aware that many of you may be thinking “but the Nationals are finally pulling away from everybody now, so that’s that.” Perhaps, but this is about the bigger picture overall.
The Braves Front Office opted for a radically different approach this season: less power, fewer strikeouts, more contact, and the usual emphasis on pitching. That hasn’t always been successful – particularly the pitching part – but we are now far enough along into this season (72 games and closing in on the half-way mark) to draw a few interesting conclusions that might be useful for the rest of the campaign… and for future considerations as well.
