As first reported by Chris Cotillo earlier today the Braves selected the contract of right hander Jake Brigham from Gwinnett.  Mark Bowman confirms the call up and says that the Braves have not as yet made a corresponding roster move.

In fact there’s no need to actually make a roster move today. Although there are 48 names on the 40 man roster, three are on the restricted list – Arodys Vizcaino, Dian Toscano and Andrew McKirahan – and six others are on the 60 day DL- Bronson Arroyo, Mike Minor, Josh Outman, Shae Simmons, Daniel Winkler and Chris Withrow.

The Latest Call Up

The 6’3” 220 lb. righty was initially selected by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round of the 2006 Rule 4 Draft.  He had TJ surgery in November of 2007 and missed the whole 2008 season. In 2012 Texas traded him to the Cubs at the deadline Geovanny Soto but he struggled in AA and was sidelined with a sore elbow.

That injury didn’t result in a second TJ surgery but the Rangers apparently felt bad and traded Barret Loux to the Cubs for him after the season ended. The Rangers empathy lasted  through the 2013 season but he was then nontendered.

The Pirates signed him as a minor league free agent in 2014 and he spent most of that season with their affiliate in Indianapolis. The Braves signed him as a minor league free agent this spring.
