Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves totaled eight hits on Sunday while on their way to a 2-1 win over the Pittsburg Pirates.  All batters except pitcher Alex Wood and Jonny Gomes had at least one base hit.  Chris Johnson even contributed with two hits!!  Not many runs were scored during this game so the clear MVP of the game goes to Braves starting pitching, Alex Wood.  He pitched into the 8th inning while giving up five hits, zero runs and zero walks.  He also had eight strikeouts as he picked up his fifth win of the season.  The Braves had lost five straight prior to this game so it was nice to be back in the winning column.  Atlanta is now 36-40 for the 2015 season.  Monday is an off day for the MLB team.

Braves win 2-1!

Kolby Allard and the Future of the Atlanta Braves

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves selected high school pitcher Kolby Allard with their first pick in the 2015 MLB draft – 14th overall.  Speculation has risen since the draft saying Allard could have been the best pitcher in this years draft and could have gone a lot higher had he not dealt with a back injury his senior year.  Allard has yet to sign his first professional contract with the Braves, but hopefully this gets done soon so we can begin to watch his career grow.

"The first steps have been taken to improve some of the weaker links in the Braves’ system. On the first night of the draft, the Braves used the number 14 pick to take a southpaw from San Clemente high school named Kolby Allard. After missing his senior season in high school due to a stress reaction in his back, the speculation that arises from prolonged injury allowed the Braves to take what was one of the highest ranked pitching prospects available.“We’re very pleased to be able to get what we consider one of the top pitchers in the draft. We were very excited he was still available at the time of our selection,” said Brian Bridges, the Braves’ director of scouting, in an interview with WYFF4.He is a great kid and someone we have targeted for some time. We are thrilled to add more pitching depth to our organization.”"

Braves outfielder Perez OK after collision

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: In the 9th inning, with two outs and a runner on base, of a 2-0 game, Pittsburgh’s Jordy Mercer hit a deep fly ball to center field.  Both Braves outfielders Cameron Maybin and Eury Perez were hustling hard for the ball.  As the ball was very close to Maybin’s glove, the two outfielders collided hard.  Maybin was able to get the ball into the infield, but Perez stayed on the ground for several minutes before walking off the field on his own power.  Maybin and Perez avoided serious injuries.

"Perez stayed down on the field for several minutes before eventually walking to the clubhouse. He was replaced in left field by Joey Terdoslavich. Maybin stayed in the game.Perez said through an interpreter that he he didn’t see Maybin and took a hit to his stomach.“He checked out OK,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “You going to ask me how I am? I was a little nervous. I thought we were going to lose two players out there but luckily (Maybin) is OK and Eury checked out. It was more his torso than it was the head. There’s nothing there so hopefully we dodged a bullet.”"
