Best Honeymoon Ever, Game 5: Toronto Blue Jays at New York Mets

Game Review:

Matt Harvey Day at Citi Field is quite entertaining as the fans are very into the game, and Harvey had one of his good days on this day in a season of up and down performances due to his Tommy John Surgery recovery. Harvey went 7 innings without walking a batter, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6. His opposition, Scott Copeland, was pulled after 4 innings, in comparison. Harvey even helped his own case with a double.

My wife noted how young the Mets infield looked on this night, and it was hard to disagree. Ruben Tejada played third, Wilmer Flores played short, and Dilson Herrera played second base, and Tejada is the oldest of that group at 25. The Mets youth looked quite solid as well, with Flores knocking a double and making a couple of very smooth plays at shortstop and Herrera making some sparkling plays at second.

I did note that Bobby Parnell didn’t throw a single strike in this game over 92 miles per hour. At one point in his 1 2/3 inning save, he threw 9 consecutive sliders. Every time he threw over 92 with his fastball, he was wildly out of the zone. He’s very likely still not back to 100% yet as he throws near triple digits when he’s fully healthy.

Stadium Review:

Citi was a very nice stadium. For me, it easily had the most comfortable seats of any ball park. I had the pleasure of sitting next to a 9- and 10-year-old pair of boys attending their first game, and I enjoyed seeing their enthusiasm for the game and encouraging their father in their fandom of the game, probably not something a Met fan was expecting to hear from a guy in a Braves t-shirt!

Citi easily won one aspect in my stadium rankings – food! My wife was able to find a very large selection of seafood in the stadium, and I would highly, highly recommend Shake Shack in the stadium. I made friends with a number of staffers at various games, but chatting with one as we arrived at the park clued me in to getting my Shake Shack burger early before the line was nearly an inning long.
