Best Honeymoon Ever, Game 7: St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies

Game Review:

A look at the starting pitchers for this game would have quickly led one to think that 16 runs scored in the game was a distinct possibility as Tyler Lyons took the hill for the Cardinals and Phillippe Aumont started for Philadelphia. Aumont lived up to his poor reports with 7 walks and 6 runs allowed in 4 innings, but outside of a mistake pitch that Ryan Howard was able to pull into the right field seats, Lyons threw a pretty solid game.

The game was highlighted early by an incident with a squirrel on the net behind home plate. The squirrel moved along the netting and then jumped into the Phillies dugout, causing players to scatter.

Matt Carpenter was on base in every plate appearance he had on the day, 3 of them through walks. Watching former Brave Jason Heyward was all too familiar – a solid double in his first plate appearance but very weakly hit balls out of the zone the rest of the day. The Cardinals pulled most of their starters early on the day as they were up 11-0 after the top half of the 5th.

Stadium Review:

I had the pleasure of spending a good portion of the game chatting with a guy I’ve chatted with on Braves forums for years. Because of that, we didn’t really explore the stadium all that much, but we did find a great pair of cheese steaks, mine a legit cheese steak, and my wife’s a faux chicken cheese steak (with no cheese).

The Phillies got very low marks when I ended up ranking the stadiums, however, due to a very poorly run promotion on the night we were there. The Phillies were having a 60s night, but they seemed to forget to tell any fans coming to the game. There was a poorly done attempt at copying Jimi Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner (a classic you just shouldn’t mess with!) and a weird try at doing the Johnny Carson show. It seemed really forced and not well promoted, but in the team’s current position, it’s possible the team is trying hard to get fans to the park and give them something fun to remember when they do come to the park.
