Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Nick Swisher To The Braves?
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves were swept by the Colorado Rockies this past weekend in Denver. A tough way to go into the All-Star break as the Braves now sit at 42-47 in 2015. Next up for the Braves? The Cubs, Dodgers, Cardinals, and Orioles…ouch, it may be a long stretch of games. At least we may see Freddie Freeman back on the field.

Atlanta Braves’ Reliever Jason Grilli Out For Season
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Notes: The Braves closer, Jason Grilli, suffered a terrible injury in Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rockies. Not only is it a season-ending injury, it could be a career-ending one. A tough occurrence for both Grilli and the Braves as he was having a great year for Atlanta. Not only was he having a great year, the Braves were on the verge of trading him to a contender. This could have been very beneficial to the Braves in the long-term.
"Multiple reports including ESPN, Fox Sports and Yahoo confirmed the rupture and that the 38-year-old right-handed pitcher likely will be out for the rest of the season. David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution also tweeted the bad news.“The pain he was in on the field was cruel,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez told Fox Sports after the game, which the Braves lost, 3-2.Grilli was attempting a routine play in the ninth inning but suddenly went down in pain, grabbing the back of his leg. He was replaced by David Aardsma."
Report: Braves, Indians discussed swapping Nick Swisher and Chris Johnson
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: It’s being reported that the Braves and Indians were close to a deal in June that would have sent Nick Swisher to Atlanta and Chris Johnson to the Indians. Personally, I would have been a huge fan of this trade because it would have gotten rid of Johnson on our bench and added someone who could have played well in the outfield in a new uniform. Unfortunately, Swisher is on the DL with a knee injury and this trade didn’t work out.
"According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Atlanta Braves and Cleveland Indians were in discussion in early June about a deal that would send Swisher to Atlanta and Johnson to Cleveland. The report details that the Braves opted not to go through with the deal because of Swisher’s expensive contract, as he is making $9 million more than Johnson’s $6-million contract this season."
