Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Johnson

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: How frustrated would you be if you pitched as well as Shelby Miller has this season, but continues to not get any run support? Miller is now supporting a 2.33 ERA, but has a record of 5-6 – yes, these stats don’t mean much to most baseball fans, but it still has to be tiresome for him to perform the way he has in 2015 and the team isn’t there for him.

Kelly Johnson has played major role with Atlanta Braves
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Kelly Johnson has had a nice surprise 2015 season with a bounce back year with the Braves. The 33-year-old was signed by the Braves to a minor-league contract in late January. He was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training and didn’t have the best chances of making the team. After playing well in Florida, Johnson made the squad and hasn’t looked back since. He’s currently hitting .282 with nine home runs. He’s credited his rebound to Braves hitting coach Kevin Seitzer.
"Johnson hit .400 (12-for-30) with three homers and 12 RBIs in his past 10 games, including two key hits in Friday’s 4-2 win against the Cubs, when he singled to drive in a run in the first inning and doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth.“It’s been a good year,” said the amiable Texas native, an original Brave and one of the best of the “Baby Braves” rookies of 2005. He played in six other organizations during the five seasons between his departure from the Braves after the 2009 season and his return this spring.“I got off to a good start in the spring,” Johnson said, “just having Seitz get with me and working on approach, shortening my swing and things like that. And it’s paying off. Just trying to stick to that routine of getting ready and doing the things that we work on.”"
Minor MLB Transactions: 7/18/15
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves signed another pitcher this past weekend. They’ve brought in lefty Cervenka to join the Gwinnett Braves and possibly the Atlanta Braves during the later months of 2015. As they continue to look for 2015 bullpen help, they’ll be focusing on the future of the bullpen. Maybe this 25-year-old signing will prosper.
"Also per the Skeeters, the Braves have signed reliever Hunter Cervenka and assigned him to Triple-A. The lefty boasts a robust strikeout rate and suspect control. He began the 2015 season with the Cubs before latching on with the Skeeters. Chicago originally acquired him in 2012 as the PTBNL in the Marlon Byrd trade."
