Braves Haranged Out to Dry, 4-1

Another day, another inadequate performance from the offense, though this time it was done with a twist:  the offense manage to reach base 14 times via 12 hits and 2 walks.  But the ability of Phillies ace (well, he is the best they have remaining and Atlanta makes him look the part) Aaron Harang to strand runners is nothing short of uncanny.

With runners in scoring position, the Braves went 2 for 12 with only A.J. Pierzynski driving in a run… if that’s what you want to call the seeing-eye single that sneaked past SS Freddy Galvis.  Like so many other Braves, Pierzynski was even fooled on that pitch, but Harang couldn’t quite win all of those battles.

Hey, we’ll take anything we can get.

Shelby Miller, flush with this early success of actually having a lead in the game, then proceeded to start giving up runs himself – all four of them – between innings 4 and 6.  It was uncharacteristic to see 11 Phillies hits, but there’s been a lot asked of him lately, and protecting a 1-0 lead wasn’t possible this day.
