Ehsan Kassim of our sister site, the MarlinManiac.com, reached out to us for a bit of Q&A about the upcoming series. We jumped all over that request, because both our teams have had significant changes since we last met and it serves as a great way to get information to you about what to expect.

Despite the Braves’ recent troubles, the Marlins (43-65) are still 5 games behind them in 4th place since the Fish have experienced their own slide (2-8 in their last 10, matching Atlanta’s record). In fact, thanks to the recent incredible turnaround experienced by the Phillies (42-66, but best MLB record since the break), Miami is in danger of falling to the back of the pack. Those two teams currently have the worst records in the majors. Thus this matchup looks like the movable force vs. the opposable object.
The Braves are now even with the Red Sox at 48-60 for the sixth-worst record, but can’t get any serious run production going to improve that, despite the outbreak of 9 runs during Monday’s miracle comeback. They will try to overcome that with pitching this weekend, sending Matt Wisler, Julio Teheran, Mike Foltynewicz, and Shelby Miller to the post.
The most compelling pitching matchup – on paper – looks to be Friday’s affair with Jose Fernandez going against Julio Teheran. Fernandez has been really good since returning from his Tommy John vacation, but Julio might have found himself in Philadelphia. Maybe this one will be decided by the bullpens.
So with that as an introduction, let’s see what Ehsan had to tell us from the Marlins’ perspective. You can also check my answer to his questions, up now over at the Maniac.
