Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Reactions to Cameron Maybin’s Walk-Off
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Cameron Maybin blasted a 10th inning homer off David Hernandez for the Atlanta Braves to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Braves are now 53-64 in the 2015 season and the DBacks are 57-59. For a game recap, check out Fred’s take on the game last night.
It’s great to see the Braves win and even better to see a guy like Maybin have success. Freddie Freeman is set to join the Braves on Wednesday and Hector Olivera is suppose to join the team sometime in late August…could the Braves go on a run??

Miller takes no-hit bid into 8th, Braves top Arizona in 10th
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: We started feeling bad for Shelby Miller about 10 games ago, but now we feel miserable. The 24-year-old can not catch a break when he’s on the mound. Though all statistics will not show it, he’s having one his best year as a professional. The former first round pick (19th overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals, out of Brownwood High School in Texas, was traded to the Braves this offseason for Jason Heyward.
"Miller, an NL All-Star last month, is only 5-9 despite ranking among the league leaders with his 2.43 ERA. He hasn’t won since May 17 at Miami. The winless streak is Atlanta’s longest since Jo-Jo Reyes went 18 games without a win in 2009.It was Miller’s 10th start in which he didn’t win despite allowing no more than one run – the most in the majors. Instead of criticizing the lack of offense, he praised the fielders who helped extend the no-hit bid.”I tip my cap to the defense,” Miller said. ”We had a ton of great plays that kept the no-hitter going through the seventh. It was a fun day for all of us.”Gwinnett Daily Post"
Gwinnett Braves fall to Columbus, slip in wild-card chase
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: A tough loss for the Gwinnett Braves as they are now three games back in the Wild Card standings. With all the turnover this season for Gwinnett, it’s surprising to see that they are in contention. Hopefully over the next few weeks they step on the gas and make it into the playoffs. For more on this, Ben Chase will be posting his minor league report this afternoon.
"The Columbus Clippers held off a late rally and edged the Gwinnett Braves 4-3 Sunday night in the finale of the four-game series at Huntington Park. With the loss, Gwinnett (65-57) is now three games behind the Clippers (68-54) in the International League Wild Card race. The G-Braves remain 5 1/2 games behind Norfolk in the IL South as the Tides were beaten by Louisville 4-0 on Sunday.Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as Sean Kazmar doubled to left off Columbus starter Jarrett Grube, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Todd Cunningham and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Daniel Castro."
