Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Melvin Upton Hurts on Tuesday
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves got crushed on Tuesday night by the San Diego Padres…and in large part to the Upton brothers. Well, manly just the one that gave us so much pain while he wore a Braves jersey. Five RBIs Melvin Upton had on Tuesday as he led the team to a 9-0 shutout. The Braves are now 53-66 in 2015.

Melvin Upton Jr homers twice in Padres’ 9-0 win over Braves
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: You’ve got to be kidding me, right?? Former Brave, Melvin Upton, destroyed two pitches on Tuesday as he went 3-4 at the plate with two homers and five RBIs. Upton got the start on Tuesday because the Padres made a trade right before the game. They traded outfielder Will Venable to the Rangers. What’s your take? Happy for Upton or no?
His manager and teammates say they have seen Melvin Upton getting better at the plate.
“I didn’t see that coming, but I felt pretty good at the plate,” he said. “Obviously the situation that me and Will were kind of alternating, that’s tough for anybody, especially when you’re accustomed to playing every day. I’ve been working hard and grinding.
“I felt this is a product of the work I’ve put in and my hitting coach has been behind me. I believe in what I’m doing. It was just good to show a flash of it today.”
Braves prospect Olivera hitless in first four games since trade
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The 30-year-old prospect for the Atlanta Braves made his first start with the Braves organization on Sunday. He’s been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the Braves acquired him from the Dodgers. Hopefully he can turn it on and join the Braves later this month or in September.
Cuban prospect Hector Olivera is still searching for his first hit since he was acquired by the Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline.
Olivera has played in a combined four games and is hitless in 11 at-bats. He is 0-for-6 with a pair of walks and a run scored since joining Class A Rome on Sunday.
