A few weeks ago, the scenario seemed fairly straightforward: the Braves’ needs for 2016 could be boiled down to these:
- Release Chris Johnson, obtain a new third baseman
- Resolve the ‘future catcher’ situation – whether via Christian Bethancourt or an acquisition
- Trade for a left field bat

This shopping list has actually been clouded up a bit lately, though, with 2 major trades.
- Johnson is gone – in fact, the Braves are now completely out of “sons of John” after having starting the year with three of them.
- Third base now looks to be set for the next five years via Hector Olivera.
- Now we have an outfield crush – Nick Markakis, Cameron Maybin, and Michael Bourn all on the roster – with Mallex Smith knocking on the door.
But the Braves still – clearly – need another bat, and I have a name that fits for Atlanta… like a glove.
