Montero, Soler homer in 8th to lift Cubs over Braves 9-7

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves lost their sixth game in a row on Saturday and will be in line for a second sweep in a row on Sunday.  The Braves were able to get some offense going on Saturday as they had 11 hits and seven runs.  Nick Swisher hit two home runs – from different sides of the plate.  A.J. Pierzynski went 3-4 with two-RBI’s.  The Cubs are in contention for the NL Wild Card spot and are currently playing great baseball.

"Miguel Montero and Jorge Soler broke a tie with back-to-back solo homers to start the eighth inning, and the Cubs overcame homers from both sides of the plate by Nick Swisher in a 9-7, comeback win against the Atlanta Braves – their third straight.Montero and Soler both lofted balls into the left field basket off former Cub Edwin Jackson (2-2), sending Atlanta to its sixth straight loss.A steady southeast wind was blowing across Wrigley Field from the right field corner to left. It helped both teams, but aided the Cubs – who also got homers from Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell – a little more."

Bethancourt has big game as G-Braves win 10-2

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Gwinnett Braves are currently still in the hunt for the 2015 International League playoffs.  Right now, they are 7 games back from the South divisional lead and 2.5 games back from the Wild Card spot.  With all the turnover that Gwinnett has had this year, a playoff burst would be a great achievement for the team.

"The G-Braves (69-58) go for a four-game sweep of Louisville today at 2:05 p.m. before starting a three-game series at Charlotte on Monday.Bethancourt’s four-hit game included a double and matched the catcher’s career high. Daniel Castro had three hits and three RBIs as G-Braves banged out 16 hits.Right-hander Victor Mateo (2-2) benefited from the offensive outburst as a shaky start, completing his six-inning outing by retiring the final 12 batters he faced."
