Atlanta Braves Adonis Garcia Apologizes to Braves Fans After Horrible Defensive Game

On Tuesday night, Atlanta Braves third baseman Adonis Garcia had his worst time defensively of his professional career.  The 30-year-old is playing in his first major league season and had committed only three errors at third heading into the night…On Tuesday, he doubled his total with a three error game.

“It’s just one of those tough nights, you haven’t been a major leaguer until you have one of those nights,” Fredi Gonzalez said after the game.  “It happens, he’s now a major leaguer.”

The Braves got beat 5-1 against the Rockies and it was mainly because of these errors.  You never want to blame a single guy because baseball is a team sport, but the box score says differently here.  Atlanta’s starter Mike Foltynewicz pitched a lot better than he has been and probably could have stayed in the game longer if the Rockies didn’t have four unearned runs on the board.

In the first inning with runners on first and second, Nolan Arenado hit a sharp grounder to third.  Garcia tried to field the ball, but it went right under his glove.  This allowed one run to score and the other to reach third base.  The next batter hit a sac fly to put two runs on the board early.  See the play here.

Then in the 4th inning, Nick Hundley hit a ball to third that Garcia misplayed to start the inning.  He later scored.

The third error of the night came in the 5th inning, but no damage on the scoreboard with this one.

“That’s going to happen, I’ve learned over the past couple years that I can’t control anything after I let the ball go out of my hand,” Foltynewicz said after the game.  “Errors are going to happen, everyone wishes they were perfect, but that’s baseball.”

He had a bad night, time to put that one in the past and move forward.  He’s a really solid third basemen and hopefully he can put this one behind him.

“We’ve got his back,” Nick Swisher told reporters.  “You’re going to make mistakes.  This is a tough game and sometimes the ball bounces kind of funky.  Hopefully he gets that opportunity to be back out there tomorrow and I guarantee he makes some sort of amazing play because that’s the type of guys he is.”

Garcia went on Twitter and apologized to the Atlanta Braves fan base and probably just to get his words off his chest.
