Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Hector Olivera Being Called Up?
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: We’ve surely seen some ugly box scores from the Atlanta Braves in 2015, but this could be the worst. The Yankees put 20 runs…yes, 20 that’s not a mistype…on the Braves on Sunday afternoon as they went on to sweep the Braves in this 3-game series at Turner Field. Julio Teheran pitched like he was on the road as he only lasted 4.1 innings. Before Sunday, he had never faced the New York Yankees and after Sunday, he probably never wants to face them again. The Braves offense totaled 12 hits in the losing effort, but it wasn’t nearly enough to hang with the Yankees.

Atlanta Braves Fan Who Fell ‘Was Doing One of His Favorite Things’: Family
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: In what turns out to be the third death from a fall at Turner Field since 2008, Gregory Murrey’s family spoke to reporters asking for privacy during this time of grief. The horrific events took place on Saturday evening during the late innings of the Yankees vs Braves game. Police are investigating what caused the fall to happen, but they said they don’t suspect any foul play to be involved.
"Gregory Murrey, 60, landed in an area of the stands behind home plate in the seventh inning of the Braves’ game against the New York Yankees Saturday night.“The night Greg passed away, he was doing one of his favorite things — watching the Braves,” according to a family statement read by his son Jason to NBC affiliate WXIA.Jason said that his father “dearly loved his family, the city of Atlanta and the Atlanta Braves.”They family said Murrey had been a season ticket holder with the same seats for 23 years. Although Turner Field has only been open since 1997, it’s possible he had similar seats in its predecessor, Atlanta Stadium."
Atlanta Braves to call up Hector Olivera on Tuesday
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves and the MLB are set to expand their rosters to the 40-man list with the September 1st Call-Ups. Atlanta is planning on bringing up 3rd baseman Hector Olivera from Gwinnett to give him experience in the MLB. Olivera and the Braves are planning on him being the 3rd baseman in 2016.
"The Atlanta Braves are reportedly set to call up top prospect Hector Olivera when rosters expand on Tuesday, Robert Murray of Baseball Essential reports. Olivera was acquired in the mega-deal that saw Mat Latos, Jim Johnson, Alex Wood, Luis Avilanand Bronson Arroyo go to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 30-year-old has climbed the minor-league ranks quickly since coming over from Cuba this offseason, hitting a collective .270 with two homers, nine RBIs, four doubles and nine walks across 34 games at six different stops. Olivera didn’t log more than 10 games at any stop, though he did hit .387 with 12 hits and a homer in 31 at-bats with the Dodgers’ AAA affiliate earlier this season."
