Finally… the Atlanta Braves figured out Aaron Harang.
Finally… holding a lead.
Finally… consistent offense.
Finally… a superb performance from one of the young starters.
Finally… a road win; first since August 2nd.

FINALLY – a win of any kind.  First in 13 games.

The streaks are over.  Williams Perez went 7 strong innings with 7 strikeouts, walking nobody, supported by Matt Marksberry and Arodys Vizcaino… who also walked no one.  6 scattered hits, including a sacrifice fly and solo homer.  Two earned runs and a 7-2 victory.

The offense was also good:  3 hit games from both Andrelton Simmns and Jace Peterson, 2 hitters by Nick Markakis and Hector Olivera (hitting 2nd).  Freeman Freeman had a single hit, but it was out of the park for 2 RBI.

Also:  don’t look now, but Hector Olivera is actually doing pretty good.  In just a single week of major league play, he already has 7 RBI – 4 of those tonight, which came on a double off the wall and a then 2-run moonshot to the left field seats in the ninth inning.  Okay, yeah:  he’s still hitting just .200, but tonight he just might have gotten a jolt of confidence at the plate after the Phillies gave him two pitches that he could handle.

After the homer, though, his new Braves’ teammates gave him something that he probably wasn’t at all sure how to handle:  the ‘silent treatment’.  As he returned to the dugout, nothing… no response, no acknowledgement, no… anything for probably 20 seconds.

Then, with Cameron Maybin trying desperately to withhold a laugh, they descended on Olivera to help celebrate his first major league homer.

These Americans have the strangest customs.

BUT IT’S A WIN.  And everybody in Braves Country will take it.

How significant was it?  Even A.J. Pierzynski gave Freddie Freeman a hug.  Voluntarily.

You can now turn back to the Ohio State/Va Tech game.
