Braves AGM John Coppolella told reporters that Foltynewicz went to the emergency room Friday with swelling and redness in his arm. Folty was admitted and remains in Piedmont Hospital for observation and treatment.

Foltynewicz came to the Braves as part of the trade that sent Evan Gattis to Houston and started the year at Gwinnett. The Braves called him up at the beginning of May but after nine starts he returned to Gwinnett.

He returned to Atlanta just prior to the All Star Break and made two relief appearances before reentering the rotation. Folty went on the DL on September first for costochondritis and pneumonia. The Braves activated him five days ago and he was working to get his arm strength up so he could help out of the pen before the season end.

Coppolella told Mark Bowman that the cause was unknown but that doctors had to reason to believe it was related to the recent DL stint.

"“We’re just trying to evaluate where it would go from here,” Braves assistant general manager John Coppolella said. “Our first and foremost thoughts are just for his health and that he is OK. As we keep going through this, we should learn more going forward.”"

Several pitchers suffered from this sort of ailment in the past and returned without incident the most recent being Jason Vargas who had a blood clot in his armpit and was on the 6/18 to 8/12 2013 who returned to make ten starts.
